My sister and I walk around our neighborhood in Richmond and El Cerrito, California, and find clues to the past: a section of a creek running open and not in a pipe through houses; a native bunchgrass (purple needlegrass) hanging on as a relict in an empty lot.
Walking around San FGrancisco one day, we saw street construction, and sand under the pavement! Evidence of the former sand dunes.
